New website and blog combined

It’s been more than a month since my last post, which is bad because it means that I’ve already broken my New Year’s resolution to update my blog each week.  However, I’ve got a good excuse (honest!).

As you can see, I have a new website!  And this one combines both my website (including the various projects I’m working on) and my blog (which was originally hosted on Blogger).

I’ve used WordPress as the CMS, due to it’s flexibility and customisation options.  In their words…

Beautiful designs, powerful features, and the freedom to build anything you want. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

I have written my own custom theme in order to give my site a unique look and feel, and called it Popper For Rik – I’ve made the source available on GitHub.  It’s still a work in progress though, I hope to add a splash of colour and improve the design moving forwards.

The theme is based on the Popper theme, which is an accessible content-first theme built around beautiful fonts and lots of white space.  It was designed and developed by Morten Rand-Hendriksen for Lynda.com – a LinkedIn Company, as part of his WordPress development courses.

Now that all the blog posts and website content has been migrated across, hopefully I’ll have some more time to get back on with the blogging, continue with my new development process series (which I’m still using for projects, even though my main site is now WordPress) and hopefully start a couple of new projects I have in mind.
