Don’t burn out

It’s tempting as a freelancer and business owner to just keep hustling, to think that working harder and longer is the way to success.  Certainly in the early days there does need to be hard work, and in the run up to certain deadlines perhaps a few late nights aren’t unheard of, but it’s best to plan ahead to avoid these last minute surges in effort, if possible.

Working too hard can lead to burnout, which is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.

Sound familiar?

Do me a favour friend, visit BurnoutIndex.org and fill in their survey.  It doesn’t take long, and it provides you with a personalised report showing you your own main risks, split into 4 areas…

  • Exhaustion
  • Cynicism
  • De-personalisation
  • Self-inefficacy

And when I say it’s a personalised report, what I mean is that they emailed me to say that there would be a delay, because they write each one individually and the demand was too high.

So do it, visit BurnoutIndex.org and fill in their survey.  You can get monthly reminders in order to track your score over time as well.
