Day 14 – Santa Cider
Morning
A very festive addition in my Lilley’s Cider advent calendar this morning, a 6% Santa cider – can’t get much more Christmassy than Santa. The title itself doesn’t give much away, although my initial guess is that it might be something a bit like the Mulled Cider from day 5. Looking online, the description doesn’t mention spices though, but a “rich and warming rustic cider bursting with apple flavour”. It’s cloudy, still and medium sweet.
I’m looking forward to trying this one, but not sure if I’ll get a chance this evening, as I’m going out (not like me!) and I’ve offered to drive, so no alcohol for me, especially at 6% which makes this bottle 3 units and would put me way over the UK limit.
Next day
As predicted, I did not get a chance yesterday to try this one, so I’ve tried it this evening. It was definitely cloudy and still, and I would definitely describe the apple taste as rustic, quite tart and tangy. It was a nice cider, not as good as some of the others, but definitely drinkable. But why is it called Santa Cider? I have to say, I’m a little baffled by this one.
Nice enough but not one to write to the North Pole about – 3/5.
