Day 16 – Rhubarb
Morning
Today in my Lilley’s Cider advent calendar is another 4% lightly sparkled fruity cider – this time it’s a Rhubarb cider. So I’m expecting this to be quite summary, probably a combination of sweet and tart. I can’t remember the last time I had rhubarb that wasn’t in a crumble with custard, and even then it would have been a good few years ago now, so this one could bring back a few nostalgic memories for me as a kid. But, you know, with added alcohol!
Evening
This was another one with quite a bit of sediment, but after a little shake, it was ready for tasting. Initially I couldn’t really taste the rhubarb, but split second later the after taste kicks in and it’s all rhubarb. Which made me want to go back for more, and more, and more. Suffice to say, this one went down very quickly! It wasn’t actually as sweet as I thought it was going to be, but then I guess a crumble has a lot of sugar in it as well. The tartness was definitely there though. It was lovely and I enjoyed it, but the fact that most of the flavour seemed to come through in the after taste let this one down for me a bit in the end.
Very moreish, but not my favourite – 3/5.
